Social media traffic ebbs and flows considerably from quarter-to-quarter, but Chartbeat's recent takeaways from Q1 2026 show that for some regions, social was growing again as a site traffic source.

Among its global audience insights, Chartbeat shows many regions' traffic from social platforms holding steady – while others increased compared to Q4.

  • African publishers saw social traffic dip from 22% to 20% quarter-over-quarter, but still led all regions.
  • Southeast Asia increased moderately from 18% social traffic in Q4 2025 to 19% in Q1 2026, while North America saw a larger jump, from 14% to 17% quarter over quarter.
  • The Asia/Pacific region also grew from 13% to 16% of traffic attributable to social media, while Central Asia was up from 11% 13%.
  • As a whole, Europe and Latin America were much less reliant on social for site traffic than other regions, and were the primary areas that stayed static/declined slightly.
