Not only did automakers shell out 15.4% more on national TV ads this September vs. last September, they more than doubled outlay month-over-month, thanks largely to — you guessed it — football!

According to iSpot.tv data recently shared with MediaPost, over half of the spend from each of the top five automakers went toward NFL and college football games. And looking at automotive TV ad impressions, there was a 69% increase during college football games this September vs. September 2022, and a 36% increase for NFL games.
