Search Engine-Sourced Pageviews Declining Quarter-Over-Quarter
Site traffic trends are changing constantly today, as algorithms shift, platforms deemphasize specific content formats, and audience behaviors increasingly shift toward mobile. Chartbeat's recent Q2 global audience insights uncover the latest trends, including moves away from search.
- Chartbeat found that 49% of pageviews in Southeast Asia came via search engines in the second quarter – which was down from 53% in Q1 – but the region still led amid an environment that shifted away from search en masse.
- Most of the regions measured a lower share of search-source pageviews, save for Central / Eastern Europe, which grew modestly from 23% in Q1 to 25% in Q2. Both Central Asia and Africa saw search traffic decline by seven percentage points, while Latin America dropped by eight points quarter-over-quarter.
- Chartbeat posits that some of the downward change in search traffic comes likely as a result of AI’s growing impact on search (where AI summaries appear with links, but don't force users to actual visit the webpage).
