December News Viewership Dips on Social Video

With consumers more focused on the holiday season, many news publications saw decreased U.S. unique viewership across Facebook and YouTube, according to data from Tubular Labs. While not universal across every news outlet – for instance, ABC News (the No. 1 news & politics publication by unique viewers) actually grew by 22% month-over-month – it was the case for eight of the top 10 in the space.

  • Along with ABC News, CBS News unique U.S. viewers across Facebook and YouTube also climbed 4% month-over-month.
  • CBS News was also increased minutes watched by 16% month-over-month, as did CNN (up 8%) and Business Insider (up 16%).
  • Expanding to the top 20, 13 outlets did not see an increase in unique viewers month-over-month; of those that did, CBS News (up 58%) and NowThis had the largest increases (up 52%).
