42% of People Say Personal Relationships Trigger Anger the Most

What makes people angry can vary greatly depending on life stage and perspective. And although most people aren't experiencing anger regularly, it's a basic human emotion that's bound to come up from time to time. While some find their tempers flaring over personal matters, others are more stirred by societal issues. A recent survey from MX8 Labs found that when it comes to what triggers anger, personal relationships and rudeness/disrespect rank high — except for people over the age of 65, who cited politics more.

  • When asked about what triggers anger, personal relationships were the most common, reported by 42% of people, and social media was one of the least common (14%).
  • But for people over 65, political issues were the most common trigger (44%).
  • An analysis of an open-ended question about the causes of anger reveals that “rudeness and disrespect” emerges as a top cause of anger, reported by 17%. That’s above other factors like general stress, family and financial concerns.
