Some of the top streaming services spent December pushing show and movie promos, reaching similar numbers of unique U.S. YouTube viewers in the process.

  • Data from Tubular Labs shows that Peacock, Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max all closed the year reaching between 25 million and 29 million domestic YouTube viewers in December.
  • The services spent the month pushing show promos and sports to generate excitement (and subscriptions) heading into the new year. Peacock (+74%) and HBO Max (+96%) made the largest month-over-month leaps.

For Peacock, in particular, December served as a crucial month to drive more interest in the service. Along with NBA and NFL games, Peacock and NBC will be airing the Super Bowl and Olympics to start the year. Showcasing what else the service has to offer – and why audiences should stick around beyond those events – starts beforehand, so it’s an easier pitch while they’re tuning into those tentpoles.
