Over 76% Of U.S. YouTube Sports Views Coming Via Shorts

As YouTube Shorts take over viewing habits, even sports videos aren't immune.
For U.S. sports videos on YouTube, just 35% of uploads in 2025 are under 30 seconds. But at the same time, those videos account for 53.2% of views – according to data from Tubular Labs. Shorts' dominance extends even further when including 31-60 second videos as well:
- Overall, videos running for a minute or less accounted for 76.2% of U.S. sports genre views, but just 51.6% of uploads.
- Meanwhile, 1-2 minute videos are underperforming relative to uploads, as are all video lengths over one minute long – though they over-perform slightly on engagement.
- 20-minute videos, in particular, are finding relatively low engagement (just 4.6%) and views (5.3%) despite accounting for 13.4% of uploads.
- These findings show that despite the crowded nature of shorts in the sports genre, the shorter-duration videos will provide the best bang for a creator or publishers’ buck, versus the longer (and more intensive production-time) 20-minute videos.
