Jim Carrey's Alleged "Clone" Makes Social Video a Frenzy
Following the César Awards in Paris on Feb. 26, the internet went wild over Jim Carrey’s appearance. Internet users were speculating whether his appearance was a “clone” of Carrey or the real him with a change of appearance. Hints like eye color, facial shape, and more contributed to the odd conspiracy.
The speculation reached a high point as drag artist Alexis Stone added fuel to the fire in an Instagram post on Mar. 1, hinting that he impersonated Carrey at the awards.
According to data from Tubular Labs, Instagram views of videos under “Jim Carrey” were up over 503% in just one week.
- From Feb. 16-Feb. 23, Instagram saw 41.6M views under “Jim Carrey”. From Feb. 23-Mar. 2, that number jumped to 215M.
- Video uploads increased by almost 520% in that time frame as well.
- On TikTok there were 2.5M views of “Jim Carrey” content from Feb. 16-Feb. 23, increasing to 148M views in the next 7 days
- While volume of views did not reach Instagram numbers, TikTok views increased an impressive 5,820%.
- On Instagram, “Jim Carrey” content saw 44.1M views on Feb. 26, increasing to 74.8M views the day after.
The top performing video across all social video platforms, “Jim Carrey recevra le César d’Honneur ce soir 🤩 #César2026”, was uploaded on Feb. 26 via Académie des César’s TikTok channel.
- Views peaked on Feb. 28, with 9.0M views and 412k engagements that day alone. The video has seen 18.4M views to date.
