Mobile audiences drive a lot of YouTube Shorts views, while TV viewers are tuning into significantly more long-form videos – and watching them for a lot longer, too. That was one of the major takeaways from Tubular Labs' recent presentation at VidCon, which is now available for download.

  • Through May 2025, 72% (!) of YouTube's TV watch-time comes via videos that are 20 minutes or longer – compared to 32% of views, which while lower, is also the highest share of any video length for TV.
  • Nearly 59% of mobile views are coming from YouTube Shorts – showing how that format has fortified itself as the preferred way to consumer content via those devices.
  • The splits for both views and watch-time alike showcase how YouTube's changes over time put larger focus on either longer (20+ minute) or shorter (under five minutes) videos both from a views and monetization standpoint.

This is not to say a publisher can't create successful content that's 10-to-15 minutes long. But it certainly is tougher to climb that hill than Shorts or "longs" here.
