A month after Stone Face Memes topped YouTube as its most-seen creator, movie-focused creator Eggdar achieved the same feat.

  • Data from Tubular Labs shows that Eggdar grew to 96.6 million unique U.S. viewers on YouTube in May 2025; all on the strength of short movie memes repeatedly displayed on top of the same face.

Eggdar’s success showcases how independent creators are using Shorts to grow significant exposure on YouTube, even without high production value, IP rights or any real audio. While there’s limited monetization opportunity for the five-second clips, brands and publishers could follow similar paths to simply generate attention for existing products and stories.

  • In May, Eggdar’s top video, about the Matrix, earned over 58 million views, and was one of the channel’s 44 Shorts to hit 10 million or more views.
  • The popularity fueled a 27% increase in U.S. unique viewers month-over-month, and more than double the minutes watched – just by way of viewers binging the short snippets.
