Diving Deeper Into Podcast YouTube Views
YouTube's podcast rankings provide an interesting view into which shows are driving watch-time each week, as the medium extends even further into video to diversify viewership and revenue streams.
And while the weekly charts are informative to get a sense of which podcasts are trending, there's also far more data available to quantify viewership and figure out how dedicated audiences are month-to-month. Tubular Labs recently explored some of the more popular podcasts in the U.S., according to YouTube, to provide even more details on tune-in trends.
- For Kill Tony, the show drew in close to 2.7 million unique U.S. viewers in June; which was on the lower end of the top podcasters and indicates a dedicated and repeat audience that offers strong, niche relevance.
- Brian Tyler Cohen's show used sub-20 minute videos to score minutes watched with timeliness and extensive reach that grew 29% month-over-month (he was a top-five podcast in June by YouTube reach in the U.S.).
- In general, understanding if minutes watched are coming from a large audience or a more targeted one helps create different monetization opportunities and changes the pitch to potential sponsors.
