Ahead Of Bills vs. Chiefs, Allen’s Ad Blitz Outscores Mahomes
It’s one of the NFL’s biggest modern-day NFL matchups, the Buffalo Bills vs. the Kansas City Chiefs. And every year, it draws in massive TV audiences. Last year’s November 17 match up on CBS was the top game by household TV ad reach, according to iSpot.
After Bills star quarterback Josh Allen was named MVP back in February, his popularity with fans and advertisers has continued to soar. Heading into the latest Buffalo/Kansas City showdown, iSpot looked at national TV ad airings data during live NFL games and found that the once-dominant Chiefs (and particularly Patrick Mahomes, who was No. 1 last year) have taken a slight step back with advertisers.
Josh Allen, Saquon Barkley and others have seen new emphasis this year while brands have put less focus on the Chiefs (save for State Farm, of course). However, former stars are also still landing, with Peyton Manning and Rob Gronkowski still appearing in a ton of ads.
iSpot data found:
- Peyton Manning, Saquon Barkley, Justin Jefferson, Travis Hunter and Josh Allen complete the top 5 by national TV ad airings during NFL games.
- Mahomes is right behind Allen in sixth, however, there is a noticeable gap between them in the number of airings (Allen: 124 vs. Mahomes: 86).
- Josh Allen also appears in more than double the number of brands compared to Mahomes (Allen: 7 vs. Mahomes: 3).
Check out the breakdown below for a closer look, which – perhaps surprisingly – does not include Travis Kelce at all. The newly-engaged Chiefs tight end hasn’t appeared in a single spot this season so far.
