Short-form video is here to stay, and is only expanding by the year as viewers flock to formats like YouTube Shorts in droves.

Over on TVREV, we shared Tubular Labs data indicating that over three quarters – 77% – of global YouTube views came from short-form videos under one minute long in 2025. That was up from 70% in 2024 and 66% in 2023, indicating strong upward momentum for Shorts, even as more YouTube viewing is happening on TV devices.

Some more highlights:

  • Views share of voice for YouTube videos running 20 minutes or longer have shrunk in that timeframe, from 7% of the annual total in 2023 to 4% in 2025.
  • Total views (not just SOV) for videos under one minute long have soared, from 24.5 trillion in 2023 to 41.5 trillion in 2025; with 27 trillion of those being 0-30 second videos.
  • U.S.-specific videos were split pretty similarly to the global breakout in 2025 – 77.4% of views on U.S. YouTube videos last year were on videos under a minute long.
  • That said, U.S. media companies took a much different approach: Just 44% of views were on videos under one minute long, and 16% of views came on videos 20+ minutes long.
